PSYCHOLOGICAL ASTROLOGY
Astrology is a serious subject that has nothing to do with the trivia of magazine horoscopes. Astrology played a major part in the philosophy of some of the greatest scientific minds in the history of western civilisation such as the Ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle or Renaissance mathematicians Galileo and Kepler.
More recently astrology was part of the metaphysical beliefs underpinning the psychological work of C. G. Jung. Astrologers such as Alan Leo and Dane Rhudyar developed the study of psychological astrology and in the 1970s and 80s the Jungian Analyst Dr. Liz Greene, along with Howard Sasportas and other psychological astrologers wrote a series of best-selling books which dramatically expanded and firmly established the field of Psychological Astrology.
In the late 1980’s I had the privilege of training with Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas at the Centre for Psychological Astrology in London giving me profound understanding of the archetypal drives of the human psyche represented by the planets in the chart. With the psychological approach I learned to see the horoscope as a dynamic blueprint for a person’s essential character as well as a way of recognising the synchronicity of the movements of the planets with significant developments and life changing events in a human life.
I was still quite young when I began studying astrology and over the years it has become embedded in my way of perceiving the world – on a personal level observing the way a dominant planet influences a person’s character or on a larger scale witnessing the way the way events on the world stage follow the transits of the outer planets.
PSYCHO-SPIRITUAL ASTROLOGY
In 2002 I graduated from The Barbara Brennan School of Healing and set up practice as an energy healer. In a very short while I realised that when I was using my clairvoyant perception to view my client’s human energy field I was also seeing their horoscope appearing as an energy pattern in the HEF.
When I returned to BBSH to do the advanced level training I looked into this more deeply – validating my perceptions in conversation with other Brennan healers. I developed a new approach, a synthesis of my understanding of astrology and my perceptions of the human energy field and out of this came my book - Charting the Soul.
Now, when I teach astrology and when I give a reading, I include moments of guided meditation so as to help people to have a personal experience of the vibrational energy of the planets.
THE ASTROLOGY OF CHARACTEROLOGY
A major part of Brennan Healing Science is Reichian body-mind psychotherapy. All Brennan healers have in-depth training in Characterology – Reich’s concept of five distinct character types emerging from five different stages of child development.
In my exploration of the link between astrology and Brennan Healing Science I found that specific planets relate closely to the different character types and characterology now plays an important part in my method of chart interpretation. This should be of particular interest to practitioners and students of Brennan Healing Science, Core Energetics, Bio-Energetics, Hakomi and Psychosynthesis.
SESSIONS
People tend to come for chart readings when they have reached a crossroads in their lives, often when they are in some kind of crisis or have a critical choice to make. Almost without exception people find the session brings immense relief, clearly delineating the underlying purpose of the situation, and showing the issues represented by choices.
Beyond this helpful information I have had clients speak of an immensely liberating sense of self-acceptance, a discovery on the lines of – “I am exactly the person I was meant to be, the struggles I encounter are not mistakes but a sign of life force moving through me to open new doorways”.
Sessions last for 1 ½ hours and are also available on Skype. Cost is £100 and I will always negotiate a sliding scale for people on low income.
